Effect of turmeric on the liver

Turmeric contains a strong phytochemical agent commonly referred to as curcumin. Curcumin is what gives turmeric its bright yellow color. This active ingredient in turmeric works by stimulating the production of bile by the gallbladder. Bile is what helps the liver to get rid of toxic substances in the body.

When bile production is stimulated, it helps to rejuvenate the liver cells allowing them to break down all toxic compounds in the body. It’s for this reason that turmeric has been used as an ingredient in Ayurveda medicine. The Chinese believe that turmeric’s strong properties allow it to be used for treating digestion and liver problems.

Other benefits of Curcumin

Curcumin is not only a powerful agent that helps to treat liver disorders; it contains very strong anti-inflammatory, anti-cancerous and antioxidative properties. In fact, studies have shown that turmeric can even treat diseases like rheumatoid arthritis, chronic pancreatitis, and bowel diseases. Since many diseases today are caused by oxidative damage and inflammation problems, curcumin is likely to be used medically in the coming years. The good thing with using this herb is that it doesn’t have side effects, unlike most modern medications.
