While substance abuse of any kind is cause for concern, it’s important to know how drug abuse problems vary from region to region. What kind of environment do you want to live in? More importantly, what kind of environment do you want your children to grow up in?

According to this video from 12 Keys Recovery, illicit drug use is highest in urban areas and lowest in rural areas. People who live in urban areas are also more likely to abuse heroin and cocaine.

However, that’s not to say that rural areas don’t have their fair share of drug problems, too. Rural residents are more likely to abuse alcohol than urban residents, and the same goes for the use of non-heroine opiates and marijuana.
