Many believe laser hair removal is a cosmetic procedure reserved for women dealing with unwanted body hair. While women are typically more interested than men are in this procedure, it doesn’t mean men can’t take advantage of it. In fact, most men are ideal candidates. As men age, they tend to grow more and more hair. Men may suddenly begin to notice back or neck hair that can be a real problem. It can be uncomfortable as the long sleeved shirts and jumpers of winter rub back and forth over the new hair. It’s also a frustrating problem if you’ve planned a beautiful beach holiday during the upcoming year.
Laser hair removal for men, though, can help. Let’s say that you have neck hair that you’re not comfortable with. You can shave it, but shaved hair starts to grow back as a stubble in less than 24 hours. You can have it waxed, which will likely give you a few weeks free of neck hair, but the pain is fairly substantial and the process has to be repeated often. With laser hair removal, however, you can find yourself hair-free in only a matter of weeks.
What to Expect
If you’re a guy, and you want laser hair removal, the first step is typically a free consultation. Your laser hair removal technician will look at your skin and hair to see if you’re a good candidate for the procedure. The best candidates are those who have dark hair follicles and lighter skin. The laser works best when there is more pigment in the hair follicle so if you’re looking to have no hair for that summer holiday, make sure you have your procedure done during the colder months of winter when your skin is generally at its lightest and your hair at its darkest.
After the consultation session, you’ll set up your first hair removal appointment. It is actually a fairly fast procedure, depending on how much hair you are trying to have removed. The two most common procedures for men are hair removal from the neck and removal from the back. Removal from the neck is, generally, much faster because it is a much smaller area. The back can take a little longer to do, but there are larger lasers for larger areas which can help to bring the treatment time down drastically.
During your session, you may notice a slight stinging sensation, but most clients find that the procedure isn’t really painful. Instead, it feels a bit like a rubber band snapping against your skin repeatedly. You may experience some tenderness for a few days following the procedure, as well, but you will be provided with an aftercare routine that will help diminish any tenderness you feel.
You may need up to six sessions to completely eliminate the unwanted hair growth, but the sooner you get started, the sooner you can be hair free, and the results last for years to come!
