Skincare Tips and Advice for Dry skin

Dry skin means your face can not protect itself from the weather just as well as it should. People who have dry skins have small cracks in the outer layer, which interferes with the skin’s ability to maintain proper hydration.

Those with dry skin are always struggling to maintain proper levels of skin hydration throughout the day. If you hate the feeling of dryness, flakiness, and irritation on your skin at the close of the day’s work or activities then you need a skincare routine that helps keep it moist. Keep on reading…

1. Cleansers

The first thing is to get your face washed clean. For dry skin, its best you avoid makeup wipes, as they often contain alcohol that will only dry out your skin even more. Instead, choose an oil or balm make-up removing cleanser, so you won’t have any problem getting all of your make-up off while also protecting your skin as well.

Normally, one cleaner is enough to help remove makeup and keep your face clean. But you should use double cleansers if you use heavy base makeup or any other kind of long-makeup wear. Essentially, just follow up on your makeup removal cleanser with another cleanser that is tailored for your skin type.

2. Serums

Serums are effective in dealing with a variety of skin issues. Their ingredients are more concentrated and they pack a punch. Of course, a hydrating serum can help keep dry skin away, but you can also apply it to fix any other skin problems you may have. If you are dealing with flaky skin or dullness, an exfoliating serum can be a great option.

When you feel you want to improve the hydration and also take care of another skin problem you have two choices. You can either try to find the serum that’s going to do both or layer the serums. Just remember to apply the thinnest substance first.

3. Avoid harsh exfoliants

It can be tempting to want to exfoliate away flaky skin as soon as you notice its signs.  But you should slow down. Harsh exfoliants and scrubs can end up causing more harm than good on your skin. What a dry skin really needs is hydration and that’s what you should get.

Regular exfoliators will irritate your skin, which in turn will make it flakier. If you must, use a soft exfoliant.

4. Toner

Toners are great to add a little extra hydration and they prepare the skin to better absorb any products you later apply. There are many different types of toner, so it’s best to search for products that expressly state they are for hydration.

Many toners contain alcohol, so it’s important to always check the ingredients of the product. Instead of alcohol, find a product that has toning and hydrating properties such as rose and hyaluronic acid as it will help to pull water into the skin. A good suggestion is Okana’s natural skincare range.

5. Choose a light moisturizer

Massage with a light moisturizer immediately after you have washed your face. Light moisturizers are great for dry skin as they contain ingredients that help to pull in hydration, soften rough cells, and create a protective seal over the surface of the skin.  This is the most important step in dry skin care.

Make sure to apply moisturizer to your face and on damp skin within 3 minutes of washing. This helps to keep your skin hydrated all day long. Also, remember to choose a hydrating moisturizer that has no irritants and contains hydrating ingredients such as hyaluronic acid, vitamin ceramides, glycerin, and B.
