Strengthening exercises are designed to maximize strength and optimize muscle gains in patients as well as amateur and professional athletes. The goal, then, is to mobilize your muscles against resistance to gain core strength as well as develop your musculature. In addition, you can move your muscles against resistance that is derived from your own weight, or you can opt for free weights, an exercise machine, stairs, hills, elastic bands, barbells, or even water to get the job done.
There are also three main types of strengthening exercises that your physiotherapist may recommend in order to optimize your healthcare and wellness. That is, you may be asked to perform stability muscle exercises, dynamic strengthening exercises, and/or eccentric strengthening exercises.
Stability exercises should be done for a prolonged period of time but at a relatively low intensity so that you do not exhaust yourself. As for dynamic exercises, they are essentially the opposite, as they are designed to be done for a short period of time but at a higher intensity of not only weight but also power and speed as well.
As for eccentric exercises, they combine bearing control with speed. In any event, some of the strengthening exercises that you may be asked to perform include pall of the press, hip extensions, split squats, push-ups, lateral squats, goblet squats, and dumbbell rows.
